Billing and plans
Subscribe, manage or cancel a Pro plan, turn Enterprise on for a workspace, and see why there is no seat pool for an admin to allocate.
There are two separate billing objects, and confusing them is the main source of "who is supposed to pay for this".
- Pro is bought by a person, on their own account. It lives in your personal Settings, not in any workspace.
- Enterprise is turned on for a workspace, by an admin of that workspace.
What each plan actually unlocks is in Plans and what is gated. This page is how to operate them.
Subscribe to Pro
Open Settings, then Plan. Pick monthly or yearly, then Upgrade to Pro. Checkout is hosted by Polar, our payment provider and merchant of record, so card details are entered on Polar's page and never on ours.
When you come back you will see:
Checkout complete. Your plan updates within a minute.
That delay is real. Entitlement is applied when Polar's webhook reaches us rather than when the browser returns, so give it a moment and reload before concluding something went wrong.
A new Dashies account starts on a 14-day Pro trial with no card. A trial counts as paid everywhere, so it exercises the whole product, and when it ends the account drops to Free without deleting anything.
Manage or cancel Pro
Once a Pro subscription is active, the same Plan section shows Manage subscription, which opens Polar's customer portal. Changing the card, changing the billing period, and cancelling all happen there rather than in Dashies.
There is no cancel button inside Dashies for a Pro plan, deliberately: the subscription is Polar's record, and giving Dashies a second way to end it would mean two systems that can disagree about whether you are subscribed.
Cancelling stops the entitlement, not the data. See what a lapsed plan actually does, which is less dramatic than most people expect.
There is no seat pool
Dashies has no seat count to allocate and no per-workspace seat pool. There is nothing for an admin to assign, reclaim, or true up.
Pro is priced per editor, and the way that works is that each editor buys their own Pro subscription on their own account. An editor is anyone who builds dashboards or connects data. Everyone who only opens a link is free, on every plan, with no cap.
The practical consequence for an admin: you cannot buy Pro on behalf of a colleague from inside a workspace, and the workspace's Plan section will never show you a seat number. If you need a team member to have Pro, either they subscribe themselves, or you put them in a workspace that is on Enterprise, because effective tier is the best of their own plan and any workspace they belong to.
Enterprise on a workspace
Enterprise is the workspace-level plan, and it is what reveals the Security section where SSO, domain verification, and SCIM are configured.
On an existing workspace: open Settings, switch into the workspace, open its Plan section, and choose Upgrade to Enterprise.
On a new workspace: the Enterprise card in your personal Plan section opens Activate Enterprise, which creates the workspace and turns Enterprise on in one step. It asks for a team name, a URL slug, and optionally an email domain. Set the email domain here if you already know you want SSO: it is the domain you will later verify, and it is the one field that is awkward to add afterwards.
Commercial terms for Enterprise are on the pricing page rather than here, so that a price quoted in the docs cannot go stale.
A workspace can only ever be on none or enterprise. There is no workspace-level Pro, which is why a Pro member of a free workspace still gets their Pro entitlement personally, and the workspace itself stays on none.
Cancel Enterprise
From the same workspace Plan section. The confirmation is explicit about the blast radius:
Every member loses access to Enterprise features immediately. The workspace, its members, and its dashboards are not deleted.
Read "immediately" literally. If SSO is connected, cancelling Enterprise does not disconnect it, and your users' sign-in path is unaffected, but the screens you would use to change any of it stop being reachable.
Check it worked
- The plan chip updated. Open Settings, then Plan. The line reading "Current plan:" should name the plan you just bought. For a fresh checkout, reload once before judging: entitlement lands on a webhook, not on the redirect.
- For Enterprise, the Security section appeared. Switch into the workspace and look for its Security section. If it still says Enterprise is required, the upgrade did not land.
- For a paid plan, refresh is actually unlocked. Ask your AI to set a dashboard to refresh daily. On a free plan this is refused with "a paid plan is required to schedule automatic refresh"; on a paid one it is accepted. That is a stronger check than the plan chip, because it exercises the gate rather than the label.
- After cancelling, confirm nothing was deleted. Open a dashboard URL. It should still serve, with its last good numbers.
